The most famous football competition on the globe is, without a doubt, the World Cup, organized by FIFA. The game takes places every four years and involves over 190 teams. Since 1900, the Summer Olympic Games has hosted a football tournament. After the World Cup, the most important football competitions are the continental tournaments. Each confederation organizes these tournament, where teams from the continent's countries enter.
The continental competitions are are the European Championship (UEFA), African Cup of Nations (CAF), the Asian Cup (AFC), the Copa América (CONMEBOL), the CONCACAF Gold Cup (CONCACAF) and the OFC Nations Cup (OFC). The Intercontinental Cup was held from 1980 until 2004and it consisted from a single game held in Japan. Following the growing interest, the Intercontinental Cup became in 2005 the FIFA Club World Championship. This is a tournament winners of the six club championships of each FIFA confederation.
