League 1
Ligue 1or Première division is the top division of French and Monegasque football. The 20 teams part of Ligue 1 play two games each, home and away, during the season for a 38-match schedule. At the end of the season, the last 3 teams of Ligue 1 change places with the first 3 teams of Ligue 2. Currently, the top three teams in Ligue 1 qualify for the Champions League, with the top two proceeding directly to the group phase.
The team with most points wins the championship; point allocation follows the international rules: 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, and none for a loss. The 4th team in the league qualifies for the UEFA Cup. The 5th and 6th placed teams can also qualify, depending on results in the two domestic cup competitions.
